SOUTHERN CHOCOLATE COBBLER

HOW TO MAKE SOUTHERN CHOCOLATE COBBLER

A chocolate cobbler recipe that may be cooked for two people in a smaller baking dish. This recipe for Southern chocolate cobbler is essentially a baked brownie with hot fudge spread on the bottom before baking.

Throughout the years, I’ve heard people refer to this chocolate cobbler recipe by a variety of names, including chocolate pudding cake, mud pie, brownie pie, brownie fudge bake, and death by chocolate, amongst others. However, the most common way that I’ve heard it described is as “the greatest chocolate dessert ever.” Which is completely accurate. It’s basically a brownie that’s been baked with hot fudge sauce, and it’s all done in one pan!

It seems like an unusual way to make chocolate cobbler with these instructions. It begins with a substantial layer of brownie batter spread over the bottom of the baking dish, which is then followed by a crushed dry mixture spread across the top. In the dish, boiling water is placed on top of both layers, but the mixture is not mixed at any point. If you give in to the temptation to mix the layers together, you won’t end up with a layer of fudge on the bottom and a layer of brownie on the top!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED:

TO MAKE THE BROWNIE BOTTOM LAYER:

½ Cup.Of all-purpose flour.

1 Tsp.Of baking powder.

⅛ Tsp.Of salt.

½ Tsp.Of instant espresso powder.

2 Tbsp.Of unsweetened cocoa powder.

5 Tbsp.Of 2% Milk.

5 Tbsp.Of white sugar.

2 Tbsp.Of unsalted butter – melted.

¾ Tsp.Of vanilla extract.

TO MAKE THE TOP LAYERS, I USED:

2 Tbsp.Of unsweetened cocoa powder.

4 Tbsp.Of granulated sugar.

¼ Cup.Of light brown sugar.

½ Cup.Of hot tap water.

Vanilla ice cream to serve.

PREPARATION:

1st Step

Prepare a small ceramic dish that is about 20 ounces in capacity and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2nd Step

To begin, prepare the brownie layer by thoroughly combining the following ingredients in a small bowl: flour, baking powder, salt, espresso powder (if using), and cocoa powder.

3rd Step

Mix in the granulated sugar, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined. The batter will have a fairly substantial consistency. It should be spread out in the baking dish in a uniform layer.

4th Step

Make the topping by combining the cocoa powder, white sugar, and brown sugar in a separate bowl and whisking them together. This should be evenly distributed over the brownie batter.

5th Step

Pour the hot water from the faucet over the ingredients, but DO NOT STIR THE MIXTURE.

6th Step

Bake the cobbler for 35 minutes on a small sheet pan that has been arranged to collect any overflow. Let stand 15 minutes before serving hot.
