HOW TO MAKE MOM’S PICADILLO CON PAPA

Mom’s Picadillo Con Papa is a traditional Cuban dish that has been passed down through generations. This hearty meal consists of ground beef cooked with potatoes, onions, garlic, green olives, and raisins, creating a delicious blend of savory and sweet flavors.

The first time I tried Mom’s Picadillo Con Papa, I remember being hesitant at first, as the combination of ingredients sounded unusual to me. And, as soon as I tried my first bite, I was hooked!!! The tenderness of the ground beef combined with the soft texture of the potatoes and the subtle sweetness of the raisins and olives created a flavor explosion in my mouth.

THE INGREDIENTS LIST:

A medium Onion.

4 medium Russet potatoes.

1 Tbsp.Of Olive oil.

1 Pound.Of Lean Ground Beef.

1 Pound.Of Ground Beef.

2 Tbsp.Of Flour.

1 Tbsp.Of salt.

1 Tsp.Of Ground Black Pepper.

2 Tsp.Of Garlic Powder.

1 Tsp.Of Ground Cumin.

6-oz.Of Tomato Sauce.

DIRECTIONS:

1st Step

Start by peeling and chopping potatoes and onion.

2nd Step

Prepare water mixture: add 4 cups of water, salt pepper, garlic powder, ground cumin, and tomato sauce. Mix well and set aside.

3rd Step

Warm your skillet, med-high and add olive oil, and once it is heated through add the chopped onion.

4th Step

Add a dash of salt to the onion to help bring out the flavor of the onion and cook for about 2 minutes.

5th Step

Lower heat to medium and add ground beef and brown. Don’t overcook, just brown. Drain but leave about few spoons of juices.

6th Step

Sprinkle flour over ground beef and cook until the flour cooks through. About 2 1/2 minutes. Add potatoes. Stir. Turn the heat up to medium-high and add the water mixture.

7th Step

When water starts to boil turn it down again to medium, stir, and let it simmer for no less than 10 minutes.

8th Step

Depending on the size of the potatoes you may need to cook them longer. Enjoy it!
